How to Write a Veterans Day Card

  1. Start with their name. "Dear Mr. Alvarez," or "Hi Grandpa," is enough.
  2. Wish them a happy Veterans Day and thank them. Mention their branch or years of service if you know them.
  3. Add one personal line. Something you admire about them, or a story they told you.
  4. Sign your name. If you do not know the veteran, add your town, class or group.

When is Veterans Day?

November 11 every year, the anniversary of the armistice that ended the fighting in World War I in 1918.

What is the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?

Veterans Day thanks everyone who has served in the military. Memorial Day, the last Monday in May, remembers those who died in service.

Can I send cards to veterans I don't know?

Yes. Many VA medical centers, veterans homes and local veterans groups accept cards. Contact them first, because each one has its own rules about mail.

What should I write to a family member who served?

Thank them by name, mention their branch or where they served if you know it, and tell them what their service means to you.

Do the cards come blank inside?
