Pet Sympathy Cards

Losing a pet is a real loss, and a card tells the owner you understand that. Use the pet's name, share a memory if you have one, and keep it short. Our dog breed and cat sets are blank inside, so you can choose a card that looks like the pet they lost.

Every set has 12 cards and 12 envelopes, blank inside.

Avoid

  • “It was just a dog,” or anything else that makes the loss sound small.
  • Asking whether they plan to get another pet.
  • Questions about how the pet died.
  • “They are in a better place” if you are not sure the owner believes that.

Dog Sympathy Cards

When a friend loses a dog, a card with the same breed on the front shows you remember them together. Our dog cards come in eleven single-breed sets, including Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Beagle and Corgi, plus an assorted set with twelve breeds. All are blank inside.

Questions

Asked most often.

Is it normal to send a card when someone's pet dies?

Yes. Many people grieve a pet the way they would grieve a family member, and a card is often kept for years.

What should I write if I never met the pet?

Say you are sorry, use the pet's name, and say you know how much they loved them. That is a complete card.

Can I send one to a coworker or neighbor?

Yes. A short, sincere note is appropriate for anyone you know well enough to talk to.

Which card should I choose?

If you know the breed, pick a set with that breed on the front. We make dog sets in more than a dozen breeds, plus cat and assorted designs.

Do the cards come blank inside?

Yes. Every Twigs Paper card is blank inside and comes with an envelope.
