Within three months of the wedding is customary. For shower gifts, aim for two or three weeks.
Either partner can write them. Split the list and have each person write to their own family and friends, then both sign.

Count every household that gave a gift, plus hosts, your wedding party and anyone who helped with the day. Most of our sets have 12 cards, so plan on a few boxes.
