Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation Cards

A baptism, a first communion or a confirmation is a day the family keeps. The card gets kept with it, so a few lines in your own hand matter more than a printed verse. Our Christian cross cards are blank inside, with an envelope for every card, and the Thank You set covers the notes the family writes afterward.

Below are short baptism card messages, christening wishes, first communion and confirmation messages, Bible verses from the NIV, and wording for baptism thank you cards. For more, see our guide to what to write in a baptism card and our first communion thank you notes.

Every set has 12 cards and 12 envelopes, blank inside.

Avoid

  • Jokes. This is one of the quiet occasions.
  • Advice about how to raise the child.
  • A verse copied in full with no line of your own under it.
  • Leaving the child's name out. Use it, and for a baby, say whose child they are.

How to Write a Baptism Card

  1. Open with the child's name, or the parents' names for a baby.
  2. Say one thing about the day. A blessing, a wish, or what their baptism means to you.
  3. Add a verse if it fits. One short verse, written in your own hand.
  4. Sign with a blessing. "With love and prayers," or "God bless."

Example: "Dear Sam and Priya, congratulations on Noah's baptism. May he grow up knowing he is loved by God and by all of us. The Lord bless you and keep you. With love, Aunt Carol"

Questions

Asked most often.

What do you write in a baptism card?

Congratulate the family, use the child's name, and add a blessing or one Bible verse. Three or four lines is a full card. For an adult baptism, write to the person directly and say you are glad to share the day.

What is the difference between a baptism and a christening card?

Nothing that matters for the card. Christening is the older word for an infant baptism, common in Catholic, Anglican and Lutheran families. Use whichever word the family uses on the invitation.

What do you write in a first communion card?

Congratulate the child by name, say what the day means in one plain line, and add a short prayer or a verse about the Lord's Supper, such as John 6:35. Keep the language simple enough for a seven or eight year old to read.

What do you write in a confirmation card?

A confirmation is the young person's own choice, so speak to them, not about them. Say you are proud of the step they are taking, add a verse about courage or faith, and sign with a blessing.

Do godparents write something different?

Godparents usually add a line about their promise: to pray for the child, to be there for them, to help them grow in faith. One sentence is enough.

Do the cards come blank inside?

Yes. Every Twigs Paper card is blank inside and comes with an envelope. The cross design has nothing printed inside, so the same box works for a baptism, a communion, a confirmation and the thank you notes after.
