An open Bible

A Christian anniversary card gives you room to thank God for a marriage as well as celebrate it. Whether you are writing to your spouse, your parents, or a couple from church, a short message that mentions faith, gratitude and the years ahead will mean a great deal. The messages below are grouped by who you are writing to, followed by Bible verses that work well in an anniversary card and a few tips for putting it all together.

How to Write a Christian Anniversary Message

Most good anniversary messages follow a simple pattern. Start by naming the milestone or the occasion. Next, say something specific about the couple or about your marriage. Finish with a blessing or a prayer for the years ahead. Three or four sentences is enough for most cards.

If you include a Bible verse, choose one that fits the couple rather than the longest passage you can find. A single verse written out by hand often carries more weight than several. If you are not sure whether the couple would welcome scripture, a warm message that mentions God's blessing is a safe middle ground.

Anniversary Messages for Your Husband or Wife

  • Happy anniversary. I thank God every day that He brought us together, and I would choose you again without a second thought.
  • Another year of marriage, and I am more grateful for you than ever. Thank you for loving me the way Christ loves His church.
  • God knew what He was doing when He gave me you. Happy anniversary to my husband, my best friend and my partner in prayer.
  • Our marriage has been built on faith, and I can see His hand in every year we have shared. I love you and look forward to the years to come.
  • Thank you for praying with me, laughing with me and standing by me. Happy anniversary, my love.
  • Every year with you is a gift from God. I pray He keeps us close to Him and close to each other.
  • You make it easy to see God's love in everyday life. Happy anniversary to the wife He blessed me with.
  • We promised each other forever in front of God and our families. I would make that promise again today.

Anniversary Messages for Your Parents

  • Happy anniversary, Mom and Dad. Your marriage showed us what it looks like to put God first and love each other well.
  • Thank you for the example of faith and commitment you have given our family. We are praying for many more years together.
  • Your love for each other and for the Lord has shaped all of us. Happy anniversary, and God bless you both.
  • Congratulations on another year of marriage. We are so grateful for the home you built on faith.
  • Watching you pray together, work together and forgive each other taught me more than any sermon. Happy anniversary.

Anniversary Messages for Friends and Other Couples

  • Happy anniversary to a couple whose marriage points so clearly to God's faithfulness. May He continue to bless you both.
  • Congratulations on your anniversary. We thank God for your friendship and for the way you love each other.
  • Wishing you a blessed anniversary and many more years of growing closer to God and to each other.
  • May the Lord who brought you together keep you strong and joyful in the years ahead. Happy anniversary.
  • Your marriage is an encouragement to everyone around you. Praying God's richest blessings over you both today.

Messages for Milestone Anniversaries

  • First anniversary: Congratulations on your first year of marriage. May the foundation you laid this year stay rooted in Christ for many years to come.
  • 10th anniversary: Ten years of faithfulness is worth celebrating. We thank God for your marriage and pray for the next ten.
  • 25th anniversary: Twenty-five years of marriage is a testimony to God's faithfulness and to your commitment to each other. Happy silver anniversary.
  • 40th anniversary: Forty years together is a beautiful example for everyone who knows you. May God continue to bless your home.
  • 50th anniversary: Fifty years of marriage is a gift few couples receive. We praise God for your love and for the family it has built.

Bible Verses for Anniversary Cards

These verses are quoted from the New International Version (NIV). Any of them can stand on its own or follow a short personal message.

  • "Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." (Mark 10:9)
  • "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:12)
  • "And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." (Colossians 3:14)
  • "Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away." (Song of Solomon 8:7)
  • "We love because he first loved us." (1 John 4:19)
  • "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." (Numbers 6:24-26)

Short Anniversary Blessings

If you only have room for a line or two, one of these works well on its own or under a Bible verse.

  • May God bless your marriage today and always.
  • Praying for many more years of faith, love and laughter.
  • Thanking God for you both on your anniversary.
  • May your home always be filled with His peace.
  • Happy anniversary. To God be the glory for all He has done in your marriage.

Tips for Writing Your Card

  • Be specific. Mention a memory, a trait you admire or a way you have seen God at work in the marriage.
  • Match the recipient. A spouse can hear something personal and romantic. Parents and friends usually appreciate gratitude and a blessing.
  • Write by hand. A handwritten card is more likely to be kept, especially for a milestone year.
  • Send it on time. If you are mailing the card, give it about a week to arrive.

Our Christian cross greeting cards are blank inside, so there is plenty of room for a verse and a personal message. Each boxed set is printed on 100% recycled paper and comes with envelopes. You can find more message ideas on our What to Write page.
