How to Write a Graduation Card
If you are not sure what to write in a graduation card, these five steps will help.
- Congratulate them by name. Start with "Congratulations" and the graduate's name or the nickname you use for them.
- Mention the work it took. Name something specific, such as late nights studying, a hard class, or a sport or job they balanced with school.
- Say what you admire about them. One quality, such as kindness, patience or a good sense of humor, makes the card personal.
- Wish them well for what comes next. If you know their plans, mention them. If you do not, a general good wish works fine.
- Sign off warmly. "Love," "So proud of you" or "Congratulations again" all work well above your name.
Here is an example that uses these steps: "Congratulations, Maya! We know how hard you worked for this, especially during junior year. Your kindness and curiosity are going to take you far. Good luck at State this fall. Love, Aunt Sue"
