How to Write a Father's Day Card

Most good Father's Day card messages follow the same simple pattern.

  1. Open with a greeting that uses the name he goes by. "Happy Father's Day, Dad" works well, and so does Pop, Papa or whatever your family calls him.
  2. Thank him for one specific thing. A ride to practice, a phone call that helped or a skill he taught you will mean more than a general thank you.
  3. Add a memory or an inside joke. One short sentence is enough to make the card feel personal.
  4. Close with a wish for his day. Wish him rest, good food or a quiet afternoon, then sign the card with love.

Example: "Happy Father's Day, Dad! I still use the toolbox you gave me when I moved into my first apartment, and I think of you every time I open it. Thank you for always showing up. Love, Chris"
